The industrial building is full of movement. Between boxes of donations, the sound of cooking pots and the coming and going of volunteers, the operations center of the Department of Social Action (DAS) in Valencia beats like a heart. This space, donated by a local businessman, has become a bastion of hope for the communities devastated by the recent floods caused by the DANA.

“Everything is designed to be as efficient as possible: from inventory to daily logistics, nothing can be left to chance.” This approach has made it possible to coordinate every aspect of the operation, which is supported by the NGO Convoy of Hope, a key partner in this joint effort.

A Warehouse Distributing Solidarity
The warehouse is the entry point for all donations. Food, cleaning products and hygiene materials are accurately sorted and recorded. From here, loaded vans leave daily for the affected areas, bringing the essentials to those who need them most.

“This is not just about receiving things; it’s about making sure they get to where they are really needed.” That is the motto that defines the work at this logistics base.

A Kitchen that Feeds Bodies and Souls
Just a few steps away, the solidarity kitchen is in full swing. A team of volunteers prepares hot meals every day, which are packaged and distributed to the affected families. More than 100 people, and sometimes as many as 150, receive these meals, an effort that ensures that no one goes hungry at this difficult time.

Initially, it was considered that local churches could handle the food preparation, but it was soon decided to centralize the cooking in this space to maximize efficiency.

Phases of Relief: Beyond the Emergency
Relief does not end with food. DAS has implemented a phased plan to support the recovery of families:

First Phase: Direct financial aid of €1,000 was delivered to identified families, allowing them to cover urgent needs.

Second Phase: Currently, professional volunteers are assisting in the reconstruction of homes, including the repair of electrical supplies, doors, walls and other structural damage. At the same time, household appliances, mattresses and box springs are being distributed to the most affected families.

In addition, a team of social workers and professional assistants is identifying the most urgent needs, ensuring that the aid is effective and reaches those who need it most.

A Home for Volunteers
The operations center also welcomes volunteers arriving from different parts of Spain. Rooms with bunk beds have been set up so that they can rest after long days of work. From here, they leave every day to the points where their help is most needed.

How can you help?
The DAS has set up a WhatsApp number to coordinate contributions: +34 629 174 406. Follow these instructions to contribute:

-Material donations : Send a message to confirm current needs and organize delivery.
-Volunteering: Sign up at the same number to receive guidance and coordinate your participation.

Currently needed: Olive and sunflower oil, Coffee, Disposable cutlery (spoons and forks), Rice, Water in small bottles, Washing machine detergent Napkins.

The DAS Commitment
This monumental effort is made possible by working together with Convoy of Hope and the network of local churches. More than a logistical effort, it is an act of love in action that reflects the solidarity of an entire community.

As the days pass, the operations center continues to be a beacon of hope in the midst of tragedy. Each day brings new challenges, but also opportunities to extend a helping hand. Valencia, thanks to DAS, Convoy of Hope and volunteers, is finding a path to recovery.
